Building Section through the 100k River Escape Project

This is a building section through the 100k River Escape project showing how the Passive Solar will work with the house. You can see how the large overhangs shade the sun during the summer and let the sun in during the winter. The main floor will have stained concrete floor with radiant heat supplied by the Solar Hot Water system. The concrete floor will also work as thermal mass during the winter to store the sun's energy during the day and radiating it back into the house during the evening. During the summer these same concrete floor help to keep the home interior natural cool. The roof is designed for the Solar Hot Water panels to be mounted on it along with the future 2.2 kw of Photovoltaic panels.

You'll also note there is no basement the home will site on a Frost Protected Shallow Foundation (FPSF) which will help to save on the cost of the home because there is less labor for the foundation, less concrete used in thee foundation, one concrete pour vs. three for a traditional foundation well blog more about this type of foundation later on. This type of foundation is nothing new Frank Lloyd Wright was using this style of foundation back in the 40's and 50's on his Usonian homes in the US.
